Prayer Ministry

Prayer is the heartbeat of new life in Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. We encourage groups leaders and chaperones to pray with their young people – and each other!    May we always call upon the Holy Spirit to give us the gifts and graces we need to support going deeper in our understanding of God and his call on our lives as his sons and daughters, using the gifts he so graciously bestowed on us.

Various members of the local team will be available for prayer ministry.  Feel free to approach one of your chaperones or a conference volunteer to ask for prayer! Visit the Chapel in Loyola Room 183 to take some time in prayer.

It means refusing to unveil what should remain hidden…. It guides how one looks at others and behaves toward them in conformity with the dignity of persons and their solidarity.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are allowed during the Steubenville Conference. The best use for a cell phone during a Steubenville Conference is to stay connected to your group, view the schedule and messages on the MyParish app, and to share stories with your family and friends at home! With this in mind, it is hard to fully enter into the conference weekend if you are on your phone all the time, so we invite you to turn off your phone and spend time with your group! Please do not use your cell phone during the sessions and especially during adoration or Mass.

Chris O’Hara

Chris O’Hara has been working with Catholic youth for 15 years after rediscovering his faith at a Steubenville Youth Conference in High School. He works in the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth office of Pastoral Life and New Evangelization and teaches courses at Atlantic School of Theology. Chris has worked with Catholic Christian Outreach, FacetoFace Ministries, St. Therese Institute of Faith and Mission, and Franciscan LEAD. He loves hockey and board games, and has three kids with his beautiful wife Becca, who he met in Steubenville Ohio! We are so excited to have Chris join our Steubenville team this year as a speaker.

Fr. Simon Lobo

Fr. Simon Lobo is a priest of the Companions of the Cross, ordained in 2009. He worked for three years as the campus minister at Wayne State University in Detroit where he witnessed hundreds of students being evangelized and coming to faith. Over the last several years, he has served in parishes throughout Ottawa. He joined the team at Saint Benedict Parish, Halifax, in July 2015 as the associate pastor where he experienced parish renewal and learned about the essential role of leadership. Fr. Simon is now the pastor of Saint Benedict Parish here in Halifax where parish renewal continues to flourish.

James Pereira

After serving with NET Ministries as a full time missionary in Catholic parishes all over Canada he has been convicted of the power of the Gospel to transform lives and the incredibly important role local churches play. James is from Ottawa, Ontario but today he calls Halifax home where he works for Holy Cross Chaplaincy at Dalhousie and Saint Mary’s Universities. We are so excited to have James on our team this year as our Worship Team Leader!
